Then, oh the places you’ll go on the Dr. Seuss Publishing team at Random House Children’s Books! The Editor will support the growth of the Dr. Seuss Publishing business by developing frontlist books and managing backlist projects that support the brand’s mission to make learning to read fun. As Editor, you will have the unique opportunity to build on a storied children’s brand, introduce new formats, reinvigorate backlist series, and develop the worlds of Dr. Seuss’s beloved characters like the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, Horton the Elephant, Sam-I-Am, and more. This role is ideal for someone with experience in rhyme, creative vision, strong editorial acumen, and excellent communication skills. Specific responsibilities include: • Edit original books based on existing Dr. Seuss IP, including new series and formats, working with authors to provide structural feedback and line edits, and giving strong feedback on art development. • Support the editorial development of other frontlist titles, including continuing series for board books, early readers, novelty books, and more. • Identify growth categories in the children’s market and pitch new books, formats, and series for development. • Assist projects to refresh backlist books and series, including analyzing consumer data, providing design feedback, and executing competitive research. • Responsible for all additional editorial aspects of book development, including preparing cover memos and title information sheets; presenting at seasonal meetings; and writing cover copy and web copy. • Participate in brainstorming with larger Dr. Seuss Publishing team, including Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Consumer Insights, and Sales. Please apply if you meet the following qualifications: • At least 4 years of editorial experience in children’s publishing. • Experience in rhymed content. • Strong interest in brand building, experience working with brands a plus. • Proficient understanding of the children's market, including current trends and key competitors. • Ability to manage schedules and multitask effectively. • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate and communicate clearly with key internal and external stakeholders. • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail. • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. • Relationships with agents and authors a plus. The Penguin Random House national headquarters is located in New York City. This is a hybrid position requiring approximately 2 days per week at the 1745 Broadway location. The salary for this position is $73,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
