About the position
Merrick & Company is looking for a Junior Process Engineer to join our team in Greenwood Village, CO (Denver metro area). We’re seeking candidates who are passionate about nuclear design, enjoy working on a multidisciplinary team, and appreciate the Colorado lifestyle.
In this role, you will primarily focus on innovative nuclear and energy projects. Successful candidates will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and designers to deliver high-quality design and engineering solutions.
Annual salary range for this position is $72,000- $108,200. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience. In-office/WFH hybrid schedules are offered.
Responsibilities
• Prepares clear, complete, and concise calculations, including software analysis models, and provides the appropriate level of connection design as required.
• Participates in internal and client meetings.
• Performs site visits to client facilities, as needed.
• Monitors assigned project progress, keeps appraised of deadlines, and delivers status updates to the technical lead.
• Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments.
• Prepares process design deliverables including:
• Process Flow Diagrams
• Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
• Equipment sizing calculations
• Process line sizing calculations
• Pressure relief device sizing calculations
• Mass & energy balances / process simulations
• Equipment and Instrument datasheets
• Piping/equipment specifications
• Evaluate and solve complex problems with guidance from more senior staff.
• Interpret customer requirements or code/standard requirements to establish design criteria.
• Technical work/documents are relatively error free and demonstrates self-checking of work before submitting documents for peer review
• Reviews and checks the work of other process engineers to determine accuracy and completeness
• Coordinates with piping designers that prepare 3D piping models and piping drawings to ensure piping design aligns with P&IDs and other design documents.
• Work in a multi-disciplined design team environment.
• Coordinates design inputs and design activities and efforts with other engineering disciplines.
• Travel to client sites, as needed.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from A.B.E.T accredited program
• 0-6 years of related engineering experience required.
• Brings entry-level type engineering knowledge and develops engineering design skills with continued experience.
• An understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities including demonstrating professional communications with coworkers and customers/clients.
• Ability to work with senior engineers and learn from them.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or requests from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
• Exercises initiative, judgment and knowledge as required in areas of responsibility.
• Possesses basic oral and written communication skills.
• Listens well and follows instructions without repeated reminder of instructions or expectations. And provides clear instructions to others when delegating work.
• Ability to read, comprehend and present technical topics to team.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts/inputs, and draw valid technical conclusions.
• Display ability to review technical design documents/packages and be able to identify issues/pitfalls, even if solution is not identifiable.
• Client projects for this position require US Citizenship
Nice-to-haves
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE / EIT) preferred.
• Experience using ChemCad/Aspen/HYSYS (or similar) process simulator and AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow (or similar) for hydraulic pipe flow modeling preferred.
