Legal Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Legal Specialist to join our client’s legal team. This role will work directly with the Associate General Counsel to provide essential legal support. The Legal Specialist will be responsible for reviewing Power of Attorney (POA) documents, and trusts, performing initial redlining of contracts, reviewing leases, and conducting compliance research. The ideal candidate will have a legal background, be a licensed attorney, and have experience working for a U.S. mortgage company. A keen eye for detail and a passion for ensuring compliance in all areas of mortgage operations are essential for this role. Key Responsibilities POA and Trust Review: Review Power of Attorney documents and trusts, ensuring they are properly executed and compliant with applicable laws. Identify and address any discrepancies or issues in the documents. Contract Redlining: Perform an initial pass on redlining contracts, including reviewing terms, conditions, and clauses to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations. Work with the Associate General Counsel to address any necessary revisions. Lease Review: Review and analyze lease agreements to ensure they meet legal standards and align with the company’s objectives. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and provide recommendations for necessary changes. Compliance Research: Conduct legal research related to mortgage laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure company policies and practices are fully compliant. Provide insights and support in maintaining up-to-date compliance documentation. Document Drafting & Editing: Assist in drafting and editing various legal documents as needed. Ensure all documentation is accurate, clear, and adheres to legal requirements. Collaboration with Legal Team: Work closely with the Associate General Counsel and other legal team members to provide support on special projects, legal matters, and contract reviews. Collaborate to ensure smooth legal operations. File Organization & Maintenance: Organize and maintain legal files and documentation, ensuring all records are easily accessible and up-to-date for internal use and audits. Legal Support for Company Operations: Provide general legal support for other departments within the company, ensuring that business operations are aligned with legal guidelines and minimizing risk. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Ideal Candidate: Must be a licensed attorney with experience working in-house for a U.S. mortgage company. 2+ years of legal experience in a support role or equivalent experience working with legal documents in the mortgage, real estate, or financial services industry. Familiarity with Power of Attorney documents, trusts, contracts, leases, and compliance research is a plus. Strong knowledge of legal terminology and an understanding of mortgage, real estate, and compliance-related matters. Proficient in reviewing and analyzing legal documents such as contracts, leases, and POAs. Excellent research skills with the ability to navigate legal databases and resources. Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all legal reviews and documentation. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with legal management software is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal information clearly and concisely. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being a collaborative team player. A proactive and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving and legal matters.
