VMI Implementation Specialist - Fully Remote with heavy travel

Apply Description Job Summary: NEFCO, a leading distributor of construction materials, is seeking a proactive and technically skilled VMI Implementation Specialist to lead the deployment of vendor-managed inventory solutions at customer job sites and facilities. This role is responsible for the physical and digital implementation of VMI programs, including setup of inventory storage systems, installation of tracking technology (barcode, RFID, mobile apps), and onboarding of customer personnel. The ideal candidate has a background in logistics, construction, or inventory operations, with hands-on experience in deploying technology-enabled inventory solutions. Job Duties VMI Program Deployment • Execute end-to-end implementation of VMI programs at customer locations, including material storage setup (bins, racks, cabinets) and labeling. • Install and configure VMI technologies such as industrial vending, barcode scanning systems, RFID, IoT sensors, and mobile inventory applications. • Ensure integration with internal systems and/or customer ERP platforms where required. Customer Onboarding & Training • Train customer personnel and internal teams on the use of VMI technology tools and replenishment workflows. • Provide user guides, system demos, and best practice documentation. • Support change management and adoption of new inventory processes at customer site. Technology Support & Troubleshooting • Serve as the point of contact for VMI hardware/software issues during and after deployments. • Collaborate with IT, software vendors, and internal support teams to resolve technical problems and improve performance. • Monitor system functionality and conduct periodic site audits to ensure VMI compliance and data accuracy. Project Coordination • Coordinate with sales, warehouse, IT, and logistics teams to ensure timely and accurate execution of VMI installations. • Track project milestones, equipment inventory, and customer feedback. • Maintain detailed documentation for each implementation project, including photos, inventory maps, and deployment reports. Continuous Improvements • Recommend enhancements to VMI deployment processes, tools, and customer-facing materials. • Stay current with industry best practices and new technologies in inventory management. • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and scalability of VMI programs. Requirements Qualifications: • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred. • 3+ years of experience in VMI implementation, supply chain operations, or technology deployment – preferably in the construction, industrial, or manufacturing sectors. • Hands-on experience with barcode scanning, RFID systems, VMI/inventory software, and mobile apps. • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools & power tools, hardware setup, and site installations. • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills. • Ability to travel frequently to customer sites; valid drivers license required. Working Conditions • On-site work at active construction locations, warehouses, or customer facilities. • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate construction site environments as needed. • Travel up to 75% depending on territory and deployment schedule.
