Position: Instructional Designer / Learning Consultant — Forklift Training Modernization (Remote Contract)
Overview
A global organization is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer / Learning Consultant to modernize its distribution center forklift training program and help build a best-in-class Forklift Training Academy. The current program, largely PowerPoint-based, needs to be transformed into a modern, engaging, and highly effective learning experience that strengthens safety outcomes and operational performance. This consultant will play a strategic role in assessing existing materials, partnering with SMEs, and designing a state-of-the-art blended learning solution that supports both foundational knowledge and practical, on-the-job application, perhaps incorporating AI or AR/VR.
Key Responsibilities
• Evaluate existing forklift training materials and recommend a modern learning strategy
• Design and develop a blended training solution (likely ILT, VILT, and supporting learning assets)
• Build structured onboarding pathways including 30-60-90 day milestone learning plans
• Create performance-support resources employees can use on the job
• Partner closely with SMEs and operational leaders to validate accuracy and effectiveness
• Advise stakeholders on best practices for creating a world-class technical training program
Required Experience
• Strong experience developing technical or operational training programs
• Proven ability to design training that supports both initial certification and real-world job performance
• Experience modernizing legacy training into engaging, contemporary learning solutions
• Ability to work independently, scope solutions, and recommend appropriate modalities
Highly Preferred
• Familiarity with OSHA-related safety requirements
• Background supporting manufacturing, warehouse, plant, or distribution environments
• Experience designing onboarding programs with 30-60-90 day milestones
• Track record of creating innovative, “state-of-the-art” learning solutions
Tools & Logistics
• Consultant will provide their own laptop and software licenses
• Final authoring tools will be determined based on the consultant’s recommended solution
• Existing materials are primarily in PowerPoint; SMEs and documentation will be available

• Comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on development levels
• Able to move quickly, work independently, and guide stakeholders through design decisions
• Skilled at translating technical operations into clear, effective training

Compensation
The pay range for this is $60.00 to $65.00 per hour on a W2 basis. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, relevant education, certifications and specific work location.
