SQL Database Administrator Consultant
Client: South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV)
Location: Blythewood, SC (REMOTE / Hybrid)
Duration: 12+ Months (Long-term, ongoing assignment)
Public Sector Experience Required: Yes
Visa Transfer: No
On-site presence is required. Regional candidates (SC, GA, NC) will be given preference.
Remote work may be allowed at DMV management s discretion.
Department Overview
SCDMV Information Technology is a professional information processing team dedicated to maintaining and improving IT functions and reliability to benefit the citizens of South Carolina. Contractors play an integral role in supporting and executing this mission.
Position Overview
This is a new position created to support expanding infrastructure initiatives.
SCDMV supports approximately 300+ SQL Server databases and is currently:
• Migrating from SQL Server 2019 to SQL Server 2022
• Implementing High Availability solutions
• Expanding Reporting & Analysis Services
• Addressing increased security concerns
• Supporting enterprise systems including:
• SharePoint
• MS System Center
• Team Foundation Server
The selected consultant will supplement the current DBA team with production support activities, including after-hours support when necessary.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Daily Duties & Responsibilities
SQL Server Administration
• Setup & maintain data replication and mirroring
• Configure maintenance automation
• Backup and recovery management
• Performance troubleshooting (including after-hours/weekends)
• SQL Server monitoring
• Install and configure new SQL Server instances
• Migrate databases to SQL Server 2022
• Develop and support Data Warehouse & Cubes (SSAS)
• Develop reports using SSRS
• Support SSIS packages
• Establish database design and development standards
• Consult developers on database design
• Support 3rd-party vendor databases
Oracle (Desired)
• Oracle 19 familiarity
• Support stored procedures and SQL
• Assist Oracle DBA team as needed
Business Intelligence
• Design, develop, and manage dashboards and reports
Data Modeling
• Use ERwin Data Modeler for logical and physical models
• Maintain data dictionaries and documentation
• Ensure scalability, integrity, and performance standards
• Collaborate with architects, developers, and business analysts
• Support modeling for Oracle and SQL Server databases
Required Skills (Ranked)
• 5+ years SQL Server 2019 & 2022
• 5+ years SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
• 5+ years SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
• 5+ years SQL Reports Designer
• 5+ years BI tools & dashboard design
• 5+ years as SQL Database Administrator
• 2+ years experience with State Government agencies

Education
Bachelor s Degree in:
• Computer Science
• Data Science
• Or closely related field
